GLOBAL POSITIONING SYSTEM - GPS
WHAT IS GPS TRACKING? ARE GPS TRACKERS LEGAL IN VIRGINIA?
A GPS tracking unit is a device that uses the Global Positioning System to determine the location of a vehicle, person, or other asset which it is attached and to record the position at regular intervals. The recorded location data is transmitted to a central location data base, or internet-connected computer, using a cellular (GPRS), radio, or satellite modem embedded in the unit. This allows the location to be displayed against a map backdrop in real-time using customized software.
How can it help your investigation?
Our equipment is state-of-the-art. We can track someone accurately to within 50 yards. The use of the GPS tracking system is an important resource which allows us gain invaluable information during mobile surveillance when someone cannot be effectively followed without risk of being spotted. Though GPS is a valuable tool, it is not a replacement for experience and training. It does provide our investigators with detailed location histories. This history allows an investigator to view the activities that occurred while the GPS unit was in place. It can be used to plan an investigative strategy or to help you keep track of your children, spouse or employee. Using a GPS tracker in a domestic surveillance could potentially save you in the overall cost of the investigation. Contact us for more details.
Effective "legal" uses of a GPS device in Virginia:
TRACKING YOUR CHILD
Parents want to believe that their teenagers are being honest about where and how they are driving. The tracking unit will tell us vehicle speed and send us a text message when your teen arrives or leaves an area designated by you.
Also, if your minor child is under the care of another, a GPS Tracker is just one more tool to aid parents in keeping their children safe.
Note: The laws in Virginia allow GPS tracking by "the parent or legal guardian of a minor when tracking (i) the minor or (ii) any person authorized
by the parent or legal guardian as a caretaker of the minor at any time when the minor is under the
person's sole care"
CHEATING SPOUSES
If you suspect that your husband or wife is having an affair, a GPS tracking device placed on their vehicle can help you determine if they lying about their daily activities and significantly increase the success of the investigation.
After placing the device on the vehicle, we monitor activities and advise you on such. If suspicious activity is detected, then an on-going surveillance investigation may be in order. At this time, you can make the decision to continue with the investigation based on your needs.
NOTE: The laws in Virginia allow private investigators, to place an electronic device only with consent of the owner of the property - this includes marital property - except "if the private investigator is working on behalf of a client who is subject to a protective order"
EMPLOYEE TRACKING
Are you a business owner wondering how your employees are using your company vehicle?
If your employee is using your time to attend to personal errands, abusing the company vehicle or maybe staying somewhere for a longer amount of time than allotted; a GPS tracker may be the solution. Every time your employee abuses your vehicle or your time for that matter, it cost your business money.
NOTE: The laws in Virginia allow GPS tracking by "The owner of fleet vehicles, when tracking such vehicles;"
